    all-in-wonder video card

ok. i was looking for a video card that supports video capture from a video camera (i was too cheap to get a digital video camera), and while doing some searching i found the screansaver's website (those wierd guys on tech TV) they recomend the all-in-wonder video card. (its something like that anyway).. has anyone used this, is it any good. i figure if they are recomending it than it is probably pretty good, but i like to get as many opinions as possible.

i think they're probably talking about one of the following cards :

    ALL-IN-WONDERŽ 128 PRO

    ALL-IN-WONDER 128

    ALL-IN-WONDER RADEON

sorry i can't be any more help, but i've never had experience with any of these cards. i'm sure someone on sitepoint has used one them as some point.

    Hi,

Never used one but seriously considering to get one after a review I just read.

A quick scan over the review.

Faster than nVida GeForce2 MX GPU and the Asus V7100 Series.

In 2d it can do 2048x1536 in 32bit color, 3D 1920x1200 (not too many monitor can do that and you would have to use a magnifying glass to ever read whats on the screen, lol)

They perform well at high resolutions but performance dropped with Quake II at High COmplexity.

All in all a good card I'd say

    Re: all-in-wonder video card

I needed the same thing for a flash / video project and had just hours to aquire one...

It is cool. I dont know what operating system youre running, but its much better with windows 2000... (worked fine and installed easily with windows 98SE and Windows ME.

I use it all the time now to

    -watch tv while working/surfing
-capture stills (really good quality and handy)
-digitize video from svideo, cable etc.

its a good investment for the price. I cant get it to save video as .rm though... must be a problem or an update / patch I need to download...

it does AVI and mpeg 2 or 1 just fine though... oh, and quicktime movies as well.

    You should get it.

Sorry, that review was in a magazine, just do a search on "All-in-one wonder pro review" I'm sure there are a few around.

Somtimes the manufacturer will also list reviews for their hardware

FWIW I am running my second monitor here on an ATI all-in-wonder Pro that I got about 2 years ago. Never had a problem with it. Great card.

They were heavily used in the shop I used to work in and were fantastic cards. They even have TV tuners on-board

I know it's fairly expensive (which is the only thing stopping me buying one for my own PC now) but it is worth it if you can afford it.

Not sure if this is too late but here it is anyway.

The ATi All in Wonder cards have generated a lot of support from the online community and with good reason. They are a good card with solid drivers, however they arent updated as much as Nvidia based cards. The software that comes with the card is a little cumbersome but it works none the less.

Just so you know, the card im referring to is the ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon. This is the latest incarnation of the All in Wonder series and the only one that you should look at if you want any sort of decent 3D performance.

There is a review of the card at anandtech if you want to read it.
