DMOZ or the ODP, is being human edited a good thing?

Oh, the clean up is a constant thing at DMOZ. Editors get kicked out left, right and center there. Even meta editors have been 'laid off' for favouring affiliated sites, so absolutely no one is immune if they are not doing their work right.

dmoz is great if the editors actually edited, and also actually emailing people if they are approved or not. not like they actually approve a massive # of sites a day where sending an email would bog down the server.
