Shouldn't matter where the HD is in the BIOS, as long as you don't have a floppy or CD in the drives that allows a bootup. Go to the BIOS and disable the Short Boot mode, maybe you are just missing seeing the prompt

Well, I have an Asus P4P800 SE but the splash screen is disabled. It loads really fast and I tapped all the way through it. You sure it's not another key?

Now that I've got that out of my system, here's a little Murphy's Law addition. When you need your monitor, it will fail. In the middle of all this, my old monitor went black so I couldn't have even gotten to you to ask another question. As soon as my safe mode travails were over, the picture popped back in, of course.

So what will we do now for nail-biting suspense and technical challenges?

You guys have been AMAZING - patient, creative and funny as can be. It's been an adventure and a great learning experience, for me at least.

He finally said M$ couldn't fix it because the problem was with the 3rd party software from my ISP and that they couldn't help me any further. It was absolutely INFURIATING! I only hope he actually reads it instead of just deleting it.
