Would that work? He's not running XP.

Couldn't I just reboot and start from scratch?

OH OH OH I HAVE AN IDEA!

Do you have a windows startup disc? You could boot to that and do it in straight DOS, nothing in windows would be running..

ALSO do you have fat32 formatting or NTFS?

Disk is formatted NTFS. Do I dare admit that I never made a startup disk? I do have a Knoppix disc though which I hear you can boot from. But that might be a bit over my head - I'm already going under for the third time. Glub, glub.

What would happen if I reboot?

The DOS window is up and running.

Should I have closed all running progies like AVG and ZA before I started this?

Actually nothing should happen if you reboot because we didnt over ride the dll

NTFS is a PAIN to work with from a boot disc ... Ive heard knoppix is cool but have never played

So should I reboot? And where do I go from there? Maybe I sould check all the netshell files in reshack and see if the alteration stuck? BTW my desktop wallpaper is still there though all the icons amd taskbar etc. are gone.

NOW THat you KNOW explorer.exe is not running you can chekc the dll in reshack and then do the whole thing (delete old, rename moded one to it) and you should be good to go!

    THEN you can reboot

I shut down explorer.exe before opening the DOS window. The old .dll one won't delete from the cmd. Reminds me of that damn icon!!

reshack isn't open. Only DOS. No way to get to reshack with explorer.exe shut down.

Maybe I should reboot and disable the LAN? Maybe the .dll is locked because the LAN is enabled?

I checked all three files in reshack and they are identical. I must not have saved the changes correctly. I'll give it another go.
