yeah the prompt is right ... that just shows you what folder youre in
what do you mean it wouldnt work .... it wont tell you anything if thats what you mean

once the file is renamed all you have to do is do a
dir *.org
and see if it shows up
then follow the rest
Why didn't we just do this through NT explorer??

I just ran the ren thing again and got the message "A duplicate file name exists or the file cannot be found".
I'm guessing I run dir *.org after the system32>?

cause we have to shut down explorer.exe and work below the OS, if windows senses what going on it may freakOriginally Posted by Coinnach
besides .... DOS is your friend

OK that means the renaming was successful .. KEEP GOING with the instructionsOriginally Posted by earther

But no dialogue box came up! I did the dir *.org and the file is there.
So now I enter?
ren netshell.dll.mod netshell.dll

if that the next instruction yea ..... Im going to go back a few pages a rereadOriginally Posted by earther

OK, I ran it and got the same message "A duplicate file name exists or the file cannot be found". TIME TO REBOOT?????

Yup do that ... I dont know what the heck they are talking about with a dialog box ... not in DOS!
HANG ON BEFORE REBOOT!

in that same dos window type this:
dir netshell*
and MAKE sure the file is there .. then you can reboot
Sounds like netshell.dll is still there if she got a duplicate when she renamed the .mod version - no?

Okie, dokie . . .
This whole proceedure is actually starting to make some sense. That's kinda scary!

no ... I think she did it twice thats why she got itOriginally Posted by Coinnach

Yup, got three there .dll, .dll.org and .dll.modOriginally Posted by dc dalton
REBOOT TIME???????????????

whats the date and time on the netshell.dll?
Ok so are we in the rebooting stage?
Coinnach

OMG! They are all 08/04/2004. Maybe I didn't do the reshack thing right?

Thats what I was afraid of .... do this. delete the netshell.dllOriginally Posted by earther
type this
del netshell.dll
then do this
dir netshell*
and make sure its gone
then following the instructions to rename the modded one to the netshell.dll

It won't delete. MAYDAY! MAYDAY!!!!
DC, can you reshack one for Earther and email it to her?? Then she can delete all of them except whats in the C:\Windows\System32 folder and go through the process again?
