    database design query

    hi peoples

was just wondering what the best way was to design a database holding 29000 searchable names. in the past i have had much smaller groups of data to play with. how would it be best designed so it runs most efficiently? for example, i could maybe put all names into a different table depending on their first letter. you would think that would speed up your average query. but what if i want to search it by using the end of a string?

    any and all ideas appreciated

    thanks!

i guess i could also use indexing to speed up searches and just have all the names and details in the one table!?!?!

still, not sure if this would be the best way...

Just put them all in one table. Index the columns you will be searching on.

Databases are quite fast, even when they are searching through millions of records (enterprise class DB's are anyhow).
