Remember when...
Your email address was only numbers?
Modems were 2400 baud? (I remember 300 baud)
There was no such thing as FTP? Everything was TELNET chmod o+rw homepage.htm :P
You could register a domain name for free?
AOL was version 2.0?
Mosaic was the only browser?
You had to code entirely by hand? There was no Frontpage or Dreamweaver.
Wolfenstein 3D was the hottest game? Nothing could get better than that! whew.
Hotmail wasn't owned by Microsoft?
I do![]()

Also when i was like 12 or 13 i figured out how to upload sites using web page construction kit and this adult guy who was supposed to know how didnt even know how when i asked him. So i had to figure it out on my own. And aslo when my cpu was screwed up so bad i couldnt get into windows i called gateway and they said to format my hard drive but i wasnt gonna do that so i did some tweaking and i got it to work. Gateway should give me a job, oh and i am 15.

I had to walk 15, without socks or shoelaces (far too expensive). and I thought myself lucky![]()

Atari first came out? Whoa...what graphics.
48k???? hmmmmm ZX81 was a luxury for me- some of my poorer friends (those who could afford something better than an abacus mind..) had to make do with Z80's.
Flight simulator on the 81.... - wow![]()

I remember when GeoCities only let you have 2 MB of space for your web page![]()

I remember always playing "Dangerous Dave" on our old Apple computer back around 1987 or so. I think we had a 5-inch screen or something like that. I was around 4 or 5 at the time.
Ah, the good ol' days.![]()

I still remember when I was excited about getting a 386 for free... that was 5 years ago
mmj > Gopher was developed at the University of Minnestota (where the little furry animal is the campus mascot).
The Gopher protocol is rarely used today, but its introduction was a true landmark in the evolution of the Internet.
I haven't used it, though![]()

I can remember when I was excited for getting a 386 for $900.
It was only that low price because it was a year old and I got it through my father
I think I can remember getting maps and weather reports on gopher. It was a lot more file/directory based than the web, but still a bit more straightforward than telnet or similar. The first versions of mosaic used gopher, didn't they?
PS, does anybody know of a site that offers gopher, still? Our web browsers all still support it... perhaps we could relive old times.
Furthermore, I do have a 200 bps modem somewhere at home but I don't know how to use it. It is huge. It is as big as a telephone book.

I think Geocities used to provide about 600kb of space - didn't they?
Do you remember when Yahoo was just a small web directory of hand-picked 'cool' sites?
The amazing thing is that while it looks a bit different today, its change has been very gradual and subtle.
