    TRANSITION EFFECT - how to?

    Hi all,

Anyone know how to get this effect (as seen in IE) to show up in Firefox /NS?

    <meta http-equiv="Page-Enter" content="blendTrans(Duration=1.5)">

I'm pretty sure you can't, it is an IE only effect.

You could use JavaScript in browsers that support one of the several CSS opacity properties.

The "neat stuff" bit made me laugh. God help us all if these are included in CSS3.

Even if these are included in CSS3 rockerz it will be around 10 years before most browsers support them.

Yeah well there really are some neat things in CSS3 but Im afraid you are right ... heck look at the full "cough cough" support for CSS2 and how many years ago did that come out?

And I have to say the transition effect has to be almost as damn annoying as the marquee effect. Both of them scream 'I am an newbie, my company isn't professional please DO NOT buy my products or services!'

    But hey, that's just me

Maybe we, as designers believe they are annoying, but the 'newbie' and the general public do not. That's why you still see these, and those horrid animated gifs still being used. :-)

What's wrong with animated GIFs? Sure it's possible to overuse them... or do you mean using animated GIFs for transitions and not just in general?

Tastefully done animated gifs aren't bad, but those horrible flashing neon NEW, Under Construction gifs is what I'm talking about :-)

Can't agree more Nadia. I believe I used a couple of animated gifs very well at http://www.innovationhosting.net/

The effect often ticks people in to think the navigation and the blue box are flash effects. Done nicely they can be great, but then you get those horrible flashing blue and red ones on a black background.

I applaud you for using DHTML for what many people would use Flash to do.

Well, the javascript/dhtml isn't really used to create the effect, just to change the image upon mouse over, if I could have I wouldn't have used it either.

    Lightbulb Dynamic Drive

If you looked at Dynamic Drive you would have found about 7 "opening" effects at this address
    http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex3/index.html
You will find the effects at the bottom.

    I laughed too.

I really hope they don't put transitions in CSS3. They will be so over used.
