Your employer doesn't pay you for using company time for personal pursuits which would include things like blogging.

The main rule when you have both a job and a blog is, well the main rule in life: don't be stupid. Don't divulge company information, don't write nonstop when you're on the job, etc.

Yup, I agree. But I wonder if it also means people writing about their companies off the job...

What people obviously don't understand is that there's nothing wrong with blogs. If you were to post at a forum with company secrets, or even constantly posting at forums on work time, they can fire you. They aren't "targetting" blogs the way people seem to be saying it does -- it just happens that people get a bit carried away when the site is dedicated to their postings (unlike forums where it's lots of people). Even sending e-mails to people from work (for non work reasons, that is) can get you fired. Anything can, and blogging is part of "anything".

I dont think that the case is that i matters if you are doing it on work time or not the case is i think that they are probably saying things they shouldnt really be saying in the blogs. It is the same as doing it on a forum yes but i would have thought blogs to be less of an issue though because even though some people make them not so provate many people do try to hide there identity.
