Display different URL in address bar
I'm recently working on making our site very Search engine friendly and promoting it.
Our site www.sitename.com has about 6 categories which can be promoted independently.
Actually the links to all categories use the same asp file, product_results.asp with QueryStrings like,
product_results.asp?cat=1 & product_results.asp?cat=2 etc.
So to change it, I created sub-directories on our site like
www.sitename.com/cat1 etc where www.sitename.com/cat1/index.asp redirects to product_results.asp?cat=1.
This works fine when I type "www.sitename.com/cat1" but the problem is the address bar displays "product_results.asp?cat=1".
Is there a way I could display "www.sitename.com/cat1" while the actual URL is "www.sitename.com/product_results.asp?cat=1" ?
I need to do this is because the whole idea behind me doing this is to promote "www.sitename.com/cat1" and if that's not the URL displayed on the address bar, it is not going to get the page rank it deserves. And if the underlying technology is changed from asp to asp.net or php all the promotion work is going to go waste.
Any suggestions/solutions are welcome.
BTW, I have complete control over the web server running IIS.
