    Need Counter on page

I would like to put a counter on a webpage. Our webpage host is Ilookabout. For the package we have we can't use ASP etc. We have a cgi bin though.
Once I had a counter on a page but you viewed it in the page also. (lost the code for it also) I don't wish to open the page to view the counter. I once knew how to do applets but haven't used any of this for awhile. I'm sure with some review I could though.

Any help or comments (where to turn for info) would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Carol

Well, you'll need some sort of server-side coding. So, you DO have CGI-PERL, then? Try hotscripts for some stuff if you're not a PERL coder:

why? in my opinion they look cheesy and so 1980s :-)

Why not use a stats program instead - you would get more visitor information this way also.
