    On my site I have a background that is only 20kb which I think isn't too big. Another image is twice as big and loads up (more or less) instantly. But the background for some reason is slowing the loading time of every page down. I only noticed this today, it seemed to load up fine until now. It also doesn't seem to be caching like it used to. Can anyone check it out and tell me what's going wrong?

    P.S. The background only shows up in 1024x768

    Richie, you are going about that all wrong. You could make it much easier on you and your users by doing it this way:

    <table>
    <tr>
    <td>
    Your navigation
    </td>
    <td>
    main content
    </td>
    <td>
    empty cell with the background image of Shannon
    </td>
    </tr>
    </table>

    If you did it this way, you would only have a background that tiled in THAT cell, plus you would not have to have the humungo background that you are using now. Just place a regular background for the BODY tag.

    by the way, fantastic choice of subject!!!!! Shannon Elizabeth is one HOT woman!

    Hey creole, thanks for the reply. I have actually thought about doing that with the table but it would leave 800x600 users with a nasty horizontal scroll at the bottom of the page which I don't want.

    hmm well i found a way round that problem by putting it in another table which is 100%. the file size of the background is twice as big for some reason but the actual image size is smaller so if it was loading slow because it was graphically demanding then the problem is solved. otherwise the problem is worse. god i hate this resolution crap.

    i give up! it's even slower in netscape now. i'm getting rid of that background altogether, people will just have to deal with a blank space.

    It did take a long time to load, but definitely worth the wait!!! Don't give up. It doesn't look like it would be that difficult to figure out, but I'm to lazy to try it myself so I shouldn't talk.

    Good luck.

    Thanks for the encouragment Dino.

    Did you just check out the page now? Or eariler? Because it shouldn't be loading slowly now, I removed the background earlier.
