I am new to PHP and MySQL. I know CGI, HTML and some Javascript, though. Want I want is a book that has PHP and MySQL that has the basics but also goes into details. Any help on choosing a book would be appreciated. Thanks

Buy a book "beginning PHP 4" from Wrox. An advance book "Professional PHP 4" from Wrox is probably available in July 2001.

For more resource, read this thread.

Just last week I received a new shipment of books that I ordered: "PHP Cookbook" and "PHP and MySQL Web Development". I haven't had a chance to look through the PHP Cookbook, but I really like the PHP and MySQL book.

It does assume you know HTML and PHP, as it is an intermediate level book, but with your experience you shouldn't have any trouble. Although it assumes you know the basics of PHP, there is a whole unit of the book devoted to a "crash course" in PHP.

Take a look at Amazon.com, you'll find many good books on PHP and MySQL. Be sure to read customer reviews of the books before you buy them. I usually only buy 4 or 5 star books, hasn't done me wrong yet.
