    Hi paul great to have you on this issue

    I have been trying to make a index/choices page.

    It has five coloubs which display the choices from each category.

    The content for each coloumb is generated by a different database table.

    Ideally therefore I want to be able to sort each coloumb independantly.

    Using only DIVs requires a whole page reload,
    e.g. http://www.qnctv.com/testbed/firstph...croll_pure.php
    not nice for slow connections etc... and float does not align in the middle.

    So I am using iframes which works fine
    http://www.qnctv.com/testbed/firstph...lderiframe.php

    This page just has multiple <iframe src="../etc.pho"></iframe>

    The specfic problem is how to add a title above the iframe and the sort options below it and still keep the coloumbs side by side.

    So
    HTML Code:
        <some tag or css>
        <h1>Coloumb etc...</h1><br />
        <iframe src="../etc.pho"></iframe>
        <h2>$sort functions</h2>
        </some tag or css>
    I tried it in a DIV
    http://qnctv.com/testbed/firstphp/sh.../DIViframe.php
    N.B. added extra div around each iframe as i did in the original ./scroll_pure.php
    see css page at bottom

    I also tried it in a <ul> with <li> display: inline; settings
    http://qnctv.com/testbed/firstphp/sh...UL_ifrmaes.php

    I also tried it with <h1>...<iframe...></iframe><h2>..</h2></h1> and several other combinations of display: inline; and float etc... but nothing I tried gets them all lined up side by side.

    I could just use a table but that would not allow a liquid design etc..

    All css is here
    http://qnctv.com/testbed/firstphp/pa...tyle_sheet.css

    I have disabled the password.

    All help is appreciated

    Hi,

    Centering elements and having them captioned top and bottom is difficult in css (if not impossible).

    You could do something like this that uses display:table for mozilla and inline-block for ie.

    Code:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    <head>
    <title>Untitled Document</title>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />
    <style type="text/css">
    html>body iframe{width:60%}
    iframe {
      width: 15%;
      height: 250px;
      margin: 0% 1%;
      padding: 1%;
    }
    #wrapper{text-align:center;}
    span{
    background:red;
    display:inline-block;
    }
    html>body span{display:table-cell;width:15%}
    </style>
    </head>
    <body>
    <div id="wrapper">
    <span> Title<br />
      <iframe src="http://www.qnctv.com/testbed/firstph...isplaypage.php" ></iframe>
      <br />
      footer </span>
     <span> Title<br />
      <iframe src="http://www.qnctv.com/testbed/firstph...isplaypage.php" ></iframe>
      <br />
      footer </span>
     <span> Title<br />
      <iframe src="http://www.qnctv.com/testbed/firstph...isplaypage.php" ></iframe>
      <br />
      footer </span>
     <span> Title<br />
      <iframe src="http://www.qnctv.com/testbed/firstph...isplaypage.php" ></iframe>
      <br />
      footer </span>
     <span> Title<br />
      <iframe src="http://www.qnctv.com/testbed/firstph...isplaypage.php" ></iframe>
      <br />
      footer </span>
    </div>
    </body>
    </html>
    Thats all I could think of at present

    got a response on another forum about not using iframes but to use

    XMLHTTP the content is displayed in DIV and the refresh is on an action which of course would be ultra cool it is like you are not even loading a whole iframe.

    what do you know about them here are a few pages?

    http://developer.apple.com/internet/...mlhttpreq.html

    http://jibbering.com/2002/4/httprequest.html

    http://www.perfectxml.com/MSXMLHTTP.asp

    Is this xml cross browser inc mobile phones etc?

    Hmmm, I missedf the notification that you posted - Sorry

    The problem is that you can't put html comments and style tags in the external file

    e.g.
    Code:
    <style type="text/css">
    <!--
    All that goes in the external style is the actual css and css coments /* */

    If you put non standard stuff in there then it throws some browsers completely.

    Hi good to have you back on this

    Thanks for the tip on the style sheet also how do I hide from old browsers what is the correct way to do that in a style sheet such as this?

    Also am I linking it right i.e. the whole page is not shown it just links to it

    And the positioning of the iframes does not work well in safari 1.e.5.2 for mac and the boarders are not the right colour for i.e.6 for pc

    any advice?

    Hi,

    Eric meyer has a good article on using import to hide styles from older browsers and you can find it here:

    http://www.ericmeyeroncss.com/bonus/trick-hide.html

    I don't have safari to test I'm afraid and my mac's not running at the moment.

    If you are referring to the ridge borders on your class="floats" then browsers will apply different defaults for the ridge effect which cannot be made to match.
