    Inactive user account

I have sort of a weird request.

When I registered with SitePoint I noticed my name was taken (literally my real name) and I just moved on, registered a new name and thought nothing of it. Today I decided to see what the person with my name does around here on the boards and noticed he hasn't so much as logged in to his account for 3 years.

Would it be possible to request that name and maybe modify his slightly (say add one letter) so I can do a name change request since he obviously doesn't appear to be planning on coming back.

Just asking because I'm pretty interested in doing this.

Sorry, we can't go around changing usernames of anyone (including inactive users).

While I fully understand the time constraint issues as well as personal interest issues involved with changing inactive users names, if we were to go and PM/e-mail/contact the person and ask if they would give up their username, and they e-mailed you guys saying it's fine, would you do it? As in, if we took the time to ask the person if they'd let us take over their name. Just wondering.

If we did it for one person, we'd have to do it for everyone... Maybe we'll institute a paid "username switching service" in the future or something for $10 ;-)

Hey I'd be fine with that. Thanks for your response.

I would just like to state publicly that if you do intend to do that, I call dibbs on both "lo0ol" and "vgarcia".

Well the guy's name was/is George.

As you can see I just chose to do to my name what I was proposing to do to his. Just add a letter lol.
