strange MSDE / Web Data Admin problem

i know it's not exactly an SQL problem but i wasn't sure where to post.

my pc recently decided to die, so i had to spend a day installing/transferring 200gb worth of data from hdd to hdd. i reinstalled everything and i'm getting problems with MSDE.

the sql servers set up fine, i can access it using web matrix and see the databases, tables etc. but when trying to use (Microsoft) SQL Web Administrator (freebie to use with MSDE) it hangs on logging in. ive uninstalled, reinstalled, removed the service, recreated it, uninstalled sql, reinstalled it, uninstalled .net, reinstalled it, same with iis but it keeps hanging when i click login.

it's pretty annoying because web matrix can't create databases and i need to execute my sql creation files onto my new system. anyone have any suggestions? :/

This doesn't answer your question directly, but there is a free tool called WinSQL that I have used that might help. I have an older version but I believe it still a free.

    ta for the reply.

i solved the problem. think it's an XP SP2 problem. i had to load up iis and change the directory path for the application.
