    just in case you don't know what the Document Object Model is...
    http://www.w3.org/DOM/

    Basically, it is the "structure" of a web page that allows you to gain access to individual elements on that page.

    For example, the properties of THIS piece of text could be changed if you could reference it properly using the DOM. Unfortunately, each browser references that element differently. Therein lies the problem.
