    Hi,

    Welcome to SitePoint Forums!
    Thats a very good question.

You have to know what you're going into.
Eg. How much traffic is your site going to drive?
How much time is available to you?
    How much updating is necessary?
Is Having a Main Page news column necessary?

When you got that sorted out..plus more, think headers/footers. these give you a general template system whereby updating one file would instantaneously update the rest of the site. Excellent for navigational menu updating and more.

Well, I;'m gonna need the replies to some of the above questions before i can say more.

Like, if you need a main page news column, use a news updating softwrae like newspro (perl).

    H i
    Thanks for your quick responce.

I don't know how much trafic the site will attract. The site will have articles and links to articles, tools, webauthoring programs, and any topic that a webmaster needs. for news i would proable use sitepoint tip of the day and news from moreover web feeds.

For the headers i would use ssi to acheive consistancy on the pages.

What i want to know is, is there a way to keep updating the site other that using ssi. Ok like Sitepoint.com how is that site updated. Or is it just that everything is organised really good.

Organisation plays an important role too.
As you can see, SitePoint uses PHP/mySQL. If your site is a low scale one, SSI should do the work. =)
