    How much education?

How much time do you need to learn to reach proficiency in web design?

The honest answer is "it depends".

For web design, which is really an artform, I'd say education matters little when compared to natural talent and experience.

I've been working in web development for six years now (in a full, professional sense). I agree with Lil Red about "it depends". I also agree with aspen about natural talent and experience.

Basically, you've either got it, or you don't. I'm a professional web developer (think big databases and user interfaces), and I've been doing this for years. It just comes naturally... I do my best when I'm working with databases and hard logic.

Education is a form of experience. I used to think I knew it all, then I started learning.

it matters what you mean by 'design'... putting tables together and learning html, maybe a few months, but making something special (which I have a problem doing), takes natural ability.
