It's Decision Time

Ok so I have been saving up for a while so I can get a new computer. Have around $1500 - $2000.

Recently, one of my friend's had a computer crash and now decides that it is time for him to kill any relations he has with Windows, he's going Mac!

I always wanted a Mac but thought they would not be powerful enough for the things I do on the computer, and let me tell you what programs I use all the time are:

- (Abuse) Photoshop CS (having like a zillion files open)
- Dreamweaver
- Flash
- Illustrator
- iTunes
- (Abuse) Firefox (can you spell "too many tabs"?)
- AIM & MSN
- Thunderbird

I also edit WMV video files a lot.

So now that you know this, do you think it would be the right thing for me to move to a Mac? Or just buy a new PC?

If that's what you use your computer for I would seriously suggest looking at a Mac. However, you need to investigate the possibility of trading in your Windows versions of the above commercial apps for Mac versions, or you could also have a large software bill on your hands

That is one of the biggest things holding me back too. Like I got Creative Suite from this company I used to work at, now would I be able to use the CS cd's on a Mac?

Not strictly legal! And no, you wouldn't

The CD's are either Mac or Windows versions so you only have Windows. But Adobe and Macromedia both allow you to exchange your license for a Mac one. But the problem is you never owned a CS license in the first place.

Maybe I can get the company to help me get it changed... anyways, I also need to be running pro tools on the computer, meaning it'll need a good sound card. Which Mac do you think would be the ideal mac for me?

Pretty much any (I would aviod the mini and eMac)... An iMac would even work. I would go with an iMac (17 or 20). But if you want power with expansion the G5 is where it is at.
