    Beginners Questions

    Hi all,

I am still coming to terms with xml and I am very keen to learn about it.

I know its markup style etc but what is it actually used for???

Is it used in HTML pages? For example instead of using <h1>hello</h1> can I use <greeting>hello</greeting> ??

What other uses does it have? I mean Ive looked at some books on learning xml but none have said what its used for and why.

Can you please recommend any very good books or websites that will possibly give me a greater understanding of xml.

    Thanks.

    Kevin.

Syndication of news (RSS), captioning and transcripts (SMIL), vector graphics (SVG), book publishing (DocBook), application configuration (web.config in ASP.NET, web.xml and server.xml in JSP), webpages (XHTML), and a whole ton more. If there's a problem in the world, there's probably an XML-based solution for it somewhere.

Amazing Web designing book for beginners

I would recommend: A Complete Introduction to the World of Web design: A visual Approach. Although, it isn't famous but it is fairly new at the moment. It is for extreme beginners. Starts very slowly and makes sure you understand everything every step of the way. The book is available on amazon:
    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...glance&s=books

    or at barnes and noble:
