SEQUEL OR SQL? which is right?

I hope I am not sparking any aguement again in this community. I rather want to make mysql clear on this issue.
I have read the post by googly asking of how pronounce SQL. I have like the answers that came up but now was able to say sequel was technically wrong. I will like to know who introduced this acronym into the system and it is correct to say sequell or not?
I have heard people say sequel for a long time but I have never mentioned sequel in my conversation before. I would not have got my current job as a database supervisor in a mining company if I did not know what sequel was. I was asked 'What is the importance of using SEQUEL than MS-ACCESS'' I would have failed here.
So can anyone say if saying sequel is technically right or wrong? and why?

sequel is wrong. as its an acronym of Structured Query Language its S Q L.

But look @ the exception that breaks the rule, i say J P G but when it comes to GIF i say gif...

all depends, there is no right or wrong answer, and if there ever was, its irrelivent now..

fred, somewhere in that other thread there's a link to the history of sql -- if not, search in google for "history of sql", and you will find out who introduced this acronym

brian, are you saying "gif" correctly?

do you say gif as in go, or gif as in giraffe?

    only one is correct

    Thanks r937,
That settles the issue for me. It means sequel is no more in existence and for that matter saying sequel is wrong 'techically and legally''.

Here is the link to the history of sql
    http://www.faqs.org/docs/ppbook/c1164.htm

    IMHO
always ess-cue-ell, except when talking about "MS sequel Server". But...

Actually, even Microsoft sometimes say ess-cue-ell:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...uage__sql_.asp

    But more usually "SEQUEL":
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro.../relation.mspx
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de.../acfundsql.asp

    or both
