IS something like easyPHP the best way to install?

Hi there

I've been using easyPHP which installs MySQL/phpmyadmin/php/Apache together. I've been having sme problems which may not be associated with easyPHP but I'd like to try something differemt anyway.

Is there a better alternative to easyPHP? Or is it better to install each part manually?

I've done it both ways (installing everything separate and using a packaged install). The packaged install is fine as long as it has the versions of Apache, MySQL, etc. that you'd like. If you're the type to upgrade often, then you might want to do everything yourself.

Can you recommend a particular package as easyPHP hasn't been updated in sometime?

Otherwise, what individual downloads would you recommend as I've never done it separately before?

PHPdev (at http://firepages.com.au/) is the only other one I know of, and that one doesn't appear to have been updated in a while either.

I'd say get the most recent stable versions of each piece of software. As of right now, Apache is at version 2.0.52, PHP is at either 4.3.10 or 5.0.3 depending on which version you want to use, and MySQL is at version 4.1.9.

I've used PHPdev and more recently XAMPP (http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html), XAMPP is nice and simple to use.

Thanks very much for the replies I found one called WAMP - http://www.wampserver.com/en/index.php , which seems to work well and the newer version of phpMyAdmin is all I wanted really.
