Setting a variable when a link is clicked?

There must be a simpler answer to this, besides going to another page. Is it possible to click on a link, but the link will set, say, $a to $b when it is clicked?

    Hi,

This cannot be done using PHP since it is executed on the server, and by the time that the user interact with the generated content, the execution of PHP has already stopped. Perhaps you could use a client-side language (such as Javascript) instead?

    Yours, Erik.
