We got the blueprints for the book (a test print so that we can check that everything will be correct in the printed book) back from the printers last week, so not long now

Amazon has changed the listing for DHTML Utopia from "Not yet released" to "Usually ships in 2-3 days". Do they know something we don't?!

Nevermind: once you get to the confirm order page, it says "shipping date: July 14th, 2005". Oh well.

As always, the book will be available from sitepoint.com before it becomes available through amazon.com.

Awesome! I have to wait until Amazon gets it (have a gift card) so it'll probably be awhile. Otherwise I'd order it the first day! It looks like a good read.

How long does it usually take for sites like Amazon to have the books ready for sale?

    Thank you Matt.

I've been waiting for the book to come out for the past 15 days. Well, I fact I have been obsessed with this!

It all started 15 days ago while I was about to buy the PHP anthology volume I & II. I then discovered that DHTML utopia was about to come out. I thought it would be wise to wait for it to come out then order the 3 books at once... unfortunately I seriously under estimated the effect this would have on me. Since then I'm dropping by site point every 15 minutes... I even wake up at night to make sure the book did not come out while I was sleeping.
My impatience got me to get quite a few speeding ticket lately. And quite frankly even all the pills sold by people spaming me with email containing subject such as "CHE4P Ph4RMACY 4NTI D3PR3SSOR" did not fix anything. My wife left me because she could not handle it anymore. My friends gave up on me and decided to stop visiting me, knowing that anyway I'll be stuck in front of my computer refreshing site point's home page while showing a total lack of conscious awareness for anything but sitepoint. A couple of days ago I thougth I filled up a form that was supposed to let me know when the book was coming out... but since I cannot find that form anymore, I'm starting to wonder if I simply did not dream about it.

My life is a mess but I know I will forget about it all as soon as I'll get the occasion to lay my eyes on the first line of your books. Ok, that's about as much time as I had and I need to go... I'll see you guys in 15 minutes!

In all seriousness though, dami1 brings up an interesting point. Why not offer your books for pre-order when they are imminently ready to be distributed? You'd be just like amazon.com in that respect, and those of us who are anxiously awaiting the release of a particular SitePoint book could rest easy knowing that our order would be shipped as soon as possible.

There's another factor here too. Remember how the sales of the CSS Anthology book (I think that was the one) far exceeded expectations when it was first released? SP would have a greater sense of demand by offering the option to pre-order and could be better prepared to fill that demand.

We have tried pre-orders in the past - and didn't have success with them.

We don't want to risk giving people a negative experience when the unexpected happens, that's why we only launch books when they are in-stock and ready to be mailed.

    I'm with you man!

I'm also awaiting it (visiting SitePoint more often than usual) to see if it was out. I got my order of the CSS Anthology in during the first hour of it's release (one hour it wasn't there, the next it was), and I was pissed that the UPS truck came to my house at 6PM! (a little too late!)

And now I have to wait until Amazon has it to get this one. The wait is going to kill me!

Why do you have to wait to buy it from Amazon?

Nicky has it right, have a gift card type thing from Amazon, so that's where I plan to buy it (otherwise I have no use for it). And I sadly have no need for a blender Otherwise it sounds like a good idea, lol.

The DHTML book will be available very soon indeed. Watch this space

The XML book is being finished off by our editorial team right now, so won't be available for a little while yet.

Finally!!! I got the email too and was so tempted to purchase it right there (although I didn't have the money, lol). According to Amazon and Barnes & Noble they get the book tomorrow. How true this is I'm not sure. Ofcourse I miss out on the poster, but oh well.
