    3D Modelling forums

I think we should have a 3D forum on this board. Stuff like 3DMax, Maya, Blender etc can be discussed. I just started learning 3D last october and i am average at it. At the moment, i am learning blender a great free powerful program http://www.blender3d.com. I am a web designer by trade and
an aspiring 3D modeller. What are the chancers of that

3d Modeling really has nothing to do with web development, hence we there isn't a forum for it here.

There's a graphic design section here and it's not the most active therefore there aren't many sub-forums I guess.

actually it does. with 3d modelling, you can for example, create logo's which i have done. And with 3d modelling skills, you will stand out from the average web designers and get better jobs. who knows, you may even work for Pixar

I agree with that also. 3D modelling ties in with graphic design, and graphic design skills are an essential ingredient of web design/development (as some refer to it).

It may tie in, but I don't see it as a major enough element to warrant it's own forum.
And so you know, I've done my fair shair of 3d work.
Check my site if you wanna have a look (in my sig).

I've seen very few business type sites that use any kind of 3d.
And most of it can be accomplished with a 2d program like Fireworks or PS.

    I can agree to that.

Very nice 3D there BTW. I've really got to get into that stuff myself. How hard is it exactly - at least the basics?

i have seen your site defender. its ok. have a look at my efforts at 3d. I am 3months into it. blender is a good starting point i would think. I still do think that with 3d modelling skills (forget animation for now) u have an edge over the average webdesign guy. I can use fireworks, photoshop. my site is designed in photoshop.

I was actually hesitant to even look as a lot of software isn't made for my baby (mac), but thankfully I did. Downloading right now. Thanks!

in my opinion, blender is almost as powerful as 3dmax. it has almost the same core features. the main reasons for learning blender was to enter this competition: http://www.peugeot-concours-design.com/index_en.htm although i did not submit my entry, i decided to carry on learning. It will take a few months to grasp the basics and become intermediate if you are working by yourself. good luck

    Not bad sagat.
Your texturing needs a bit of work, but looks pretty good considering you're using blender.
From what I've heard, blender is absolutely hellish to learn to use, but once you understand it, it's quite useful.

I haven't done any modeling in 2-3 years though, so I haven't stayed in touch with what's popular today.
