I found a place that would make me 1000 pencils with our name and URL printed on them for a real cheap price. I also bought 500 buisness cards avertising the site and district. I handed them out to all the schools and placed them out during conferences. People gobbled them up like crazy and soon big things started to happen. We increased out hits from 300/d to 1500/d and got a few articles in the news. Thats all for now, maybe I'll post more later.

I've been giving serious thought to offline advertising. I think I will start with pens and pencils. It might not benefit my business but at least it is getting our name out there.
    good advice. Thanks, Nicci

Good point idylion214, offline advertising can be very effective. I've done some and seen great results. I was a big fan of stickers for a while, but the pen idea (no pencils) is great. I'll have to look into that and see who does cheap pens.

Forum links, YouTube videos and social networking / bookmarking. This methods work, but the fastest way is always PPC or other paid ads.

And generally if one plays it right, a good amount of very targetted traffic can be gained for a very small cost.

Thanks for this tip! I'm going to try it..

    Any new ones?

For those in college, you usually get some web space reserved for you on the school's servers. Make a dummy html page there with links to your other websites. The search engines may go through these pages and if so, they rank *.edu inbound links as higher quality!!

Google has discredited the .edu rumor- says it aint so!

Anyways, for me my best offline tool is really the flyer. I sell blinds so targetted flyer campaigns to the residents of new buildings/neighborhoods always nets calls. Probably about 20% of my business.

I've been using craigslist for the past couple of weeks.

I would suggest setting up a seperate email account just for craigslist, because I'm getting a lot of spam emails coming from my ads...

My tip - Review your competitor's sites! Sure, that sounds kinda funny that you might be sending traffic to them (don't put links in your money spots), but the real point is to get search engine traffic that was searching for them. Tons of people think how they get to websites is through the search bar for example. Be sure to include the URL in it's full form and chopped up a bit into keywords

the way to go is to pay for directories with good pr.
1 link from a PR6 can give you a PR6 if it has no more than 2 outgoing links and a PR5 for less than 15 outgoing links.
