You would think Maryland was the deep south with how they reacted to snow.

I've always loved the winter, including large quantities of whatever precipitation the clouds decide to toss down. Fortunately, too, our school district seems quite similar to Maryland; an inch or two is usually sufficient to give us an unexpected day off.

    I can't stand summer though—too hot.

We've got unusual weather here in my little cave (Charleston WV) as well. Highs of 65 F this coming week. Time to break out the shorts and t-shirts!

Get this one, you would have thought that we were having a blizzard last night. A 30 minute drive at 10:00 PM took an hour an a half. Cars were in ditches left and right. This was in Southern IL.

Tomorrow, it is supposed to be 59. Tuesday brings a high of 70!

I'll take the heat over the snow any day. I cant stand snow.

So I take it you don't ski? I love skiing, except for the long, treacherous, crowded drive; the insane prices of lift tickets, food, gear; the long lift lines; the crowded slopes.

Nope... Couldn't ski if I wanted to because of a bad ankle but I don't want to participate in a sport that requires being in the cold. Usually anything under 70 degrees and I am uncomfortable.

I'm less comfortable about participating in a sport that involves strapping yourself to small boards and sending yourself down a mountain than I am about being in the cold.

Although I still do it occasionally.

Yep, I'm sure it will catch up pretty fast, thus why I'm not worried right now. We can always depend on about 12 inches around the State Hockey Tournament.

Well at this point, snow would be preferable. Everything is closed locally because of flooding including the three major arteries to the world outside the valley I live in. Should be an interesting few days as the normally dry creekbeds have become torrents and started uprooting bridges and undermining roads last night.

I just spoke to an agent of ours who is in your area and he pretty much echos your sentiments. Apparently you guys are getting more rain in any one hour then you've had the last two years combined.

We aren't getting as much as Los Angeles is. However, I happen to live in a valley so we are getting all the runoff from the mountains plus our own rain. We did get our yearly average of rain in the last weekend though. Two more days of this, then we get a couple of days to wring out and it all starts over again. Haven't seen the sun since last Tuesday. Have had to empty my rainmeter twice so far this month.

Drove my kids home (about 30 miles away) and all the onion and carrot fields are flooded so the current crops are destroyed. Will be interesting as those have become the most prolific crops in the area over the last few years with about 100,000 hectares planted here every year.

A plus is that we are no longer under "Extreme Fire Watch".

lol. That is hilarious. We just got a whole bunch of snow, not as much as the deep south mind you, but a lot for the tri-cities. Hey, hey, new smilies!

I heard on the news today that LA and California have gotten as much rain in four days as they usually get in an entire year. Wow. Maybe it's the start of that whole forty days and nights thing.

My son asked about 40 days and 40 nights and it isn't possible while we have polar ice caps. Might be possible in 50 years when they are done melting.

The weather is actually quite common for an El Nino year but people's memories are short. It should be noted that while rainfall in most parts is above normal, the snowpack in the Sierra Nevada was at 23% of normal at the beginning of January. California gets most of its water from this snowpack. It seems we need 60 feet of snow in a lot of areas to make this water. The good thing about the rain is that local reservoirs are being filled with it. One dam locally hasn't had water in it for over a year and a main reservoir for my local area has been at about 10% and hasn't seen 100% capacity for 10 years now. The dry lakebeds at Edwards Air Force Base are also filling up so the aquifer underneath the valley floor can be replenished as well.

Most of the rain in Los Angeles just drained immediately into the Pacific Ocean so it is lost.

It's 55 degrees today here in Philly, it's going to be 70 on Thursday, and then we get 3-4 days where it doesn't get above freezing starting on Saturday. Weird weird weather :|

    It's currently -12 degrees Celcius in Ottawa. That's 10 degrees Fahrenheit, if you're non-metric.

Environment Canada predicts freezing rain tomorrow. Great. That means, if I'm bored, I can pull up a chair to my apartment windows and watch cars slide around on the 417. That is, if my bus makes it home from work within 3 hours.
