    Password protecting phpmyadmin?

I just installed phpmyadmin on my server but now ANYONE can access it if they knnow what directory to go to. The manual is not making a lot of sense to me - can someone explain how to password protect my installation? Thank you in advance.

Are you on a linux server?

If you are then go to google and do search for .htaccess files. You'll want to create one of these and put it in the phpmyadmin folder. In the htaccess file you tell it the location of your .htpasswd file. You'll need to telnet or secure shell into your server and run the htpasswd command. Don't store the htpasswd file in the same folder as the phpmyadmin, you can put it practically anywhere on your server, preferrably out of the web root. That way people can't grab it from your server if they somehow find it.

Also look in your hosting providers control panel if you have one, perhaps they offer some way of protecting folders. I know my host does.
