Can You Name This Sci-Fi Movie?

I was watching TV and I seen an old sci-fi movie that I used to like and I thought "yes, I'll finally know the name of it!" and I went out for 5 minutes to wait for my nephew to get off the bus and came back and it was showing the credits...

The movie is fairly old, It looks like it came out more than 10 years ago (at least.) The movie is about a human which becomes a friend of a Drak (or however you spell it) which is a lizard-type humanoid creature. The Drak later on in the movie has a kid and it dies during delivery and the human raises the baby Drak. I won't mention the rest because I don't want to spoil the ending for anyone who wants to watch it later

Does anyone know what movie I'm talking about?
