Can't play mpg/mpeg in Windows Media Player

I used to be able to play mpg/mpegs with WMP and Realplayer but now I can only play the audio while the video seems to freeze on frame 1, or it remains black.. I have VideoWave 4.0 SE which does play these files. Anyone know how I can enable this in my media players? (WMP 9 on Win98)

I had the same problem a while ago. It seemed to be connected to the different video codecs. I installed "ACE Mega CoDecS Pack" and WMP refused to play mpegs. It would still play DivX (if I remember correctly). I uninstalled the codecs pack and it worked again, but never as good as before. I have since installed the pack again and now it works for some mysterious reason. I don't know why it should stop working when I install codecs but that seemed to be the case.

Try messing around a bit with your codecs and see if it helps.

Strange, that happened to me today too. I still haven't fixed it, I've been using divx player instead.
