What's the fuss about firefox?

Firefox messes up image rendering on alot of pages

You know, I've heard this before, but I'm not sure I've ever witnessed it. I wonder if I move quickly enough through sites that I discard the ones that don't appear to work and don't even remember visiting them.

Another hypothesis may be that the sites that don't take enough care to work cross-browser aren't designed well enough for me to care or even notice if the design isn't rendered perfectly.

Anyway, can someone give me an example of a site or two I can visit that is screwed up on Firefox?

Take the java-gaming site in my sig for example. It isn't really messed up but when you view it in firefox, all the border become black--which I really don't work.

Also I still can't get meta-refresh to work in firefox.

I dont see the big deal with firefox either to be honest. I can see how people like it because they are different from IE and such but to me it just isn't as known as IE and to me IE is much easier to browse in.

This was patched in the recent 1.0.3 version. Everyone using Firefox < 1.0.3 should update.

Looks like the bug was known for about two weeks before being patched.

They had a patch right away but had issues with extenions failing. Instead of forcing extension writers to fix their extensions they kept hacking away until they found a happy medium.

I suppose that's the rub, though. If the patch does more damage than the bug, you don't really have much of a patch.

It's like if I had a box of band aids that were soaking in week-old meat juice, I'd probably be better off bleeding a little more. Of course a nice, clean band aid would be ideal.

OKay, I was gonna read the entire thread before posting, but I'm not. I just recently made the switch to firefox, only because I was sick of IE. But now I notice, firefox and IE both take up serious amounts of memory, and if you care so much about security, turn off activex in IE, not that hard, people.

But you can't turn on tabbed browsing or CSS2 support.

Heh, which is why I haven't left firefox, yet. I just wish it would support pointless stuff like colored scrollbars.

You switch to FireFox, because:

1. You don't want adware, spyware, malware, or whatever, installed on your computer without your consent.
   My Zone Alarm blocks all that...no problem
2. You want a faster browser.
   It hasn't proven to be faster for me and my DSL connection
3. You want a more lightweight browser.
   Not noticable on a high powered system
4. You want tabbed browsing.
   Don't need, or care about that
5. You want good security settings.
   I have that with Zone Alarm
6. You want more privacy options.
   I have that with Zone Alarm
7. You want more features.
   I have all the features I want or need
8. You want extensions.
   Don't need to extend anything, so I'm good.

And so on...

I can counter every point made above but it would be pointless. For some people Firefox is a great choice, for others they won't get much out of it. To each their own.

I tried Firefox and for me it sucked!
I've never had any problems with IE, or even with Windows...so why should I change?...I'm not going to because this is what works great for me.

I don't agree with #2 or #3. Firefox has more extensions but is slower and crashes constantly. Plus lots of sites are n't designed for FF and display funny. You could say they aren't standards compliant but the point is that I am looking at a site that looks FUBAR'ed.

I do love the devleopers toolbar however, plus the lack of adware, and the download program. But FF takes for-ever to load, somteims as many as 20 seconds. IE pops right up for quick browsing. I also do'nt think the tabs are such a big deal, I like to alt-tab through windows anways

I am currently trialing Advanced Browser to see if it just me or my machine, if anyone has any recommendations I would be happy to hear them....

Advanced Bowser is great. I use it more than FireFox because it is faster, although I do like FF, although it runs VERY slow on my computer. One of its disadvantages is that, since it is built off IE, it displays Web sites the same way. Srill a great browser, nonetheless.

has anybody mentioned that MOZ actually adheres to web standars, meaning that as a developer, if we keep to W3C guidlines it will work in MOZ, IE has decided to ignore most standards....as usual......this is why we end up having cross browser problems....because IE seems to think it can do whatever the hell it likes....
