I am working on a website for a customer, and he wanted me to scan a magazine article (that has graphics and text) and put it online. However, I came across two problems.

    1. The image first took too long to download

    2. If I tried to make the image download faster, the graphic will become distorted, thus, unreadable.

Are there any ideas as to how I can do this?

If the customer isn't particularly hot for viewing the scan as an inline graphic, you might consider putting the article online as a PDF file.

If you have (or can get access to) the full version of Acrobat you can scan the article right in and convert from there.

You can also scan the article into a Word document and use the PDFMaker plug-in for Word to convert it to a PDF file.

BTW, if you need access to Acrobat, let me know. I would be happy to help you.

does you scanner have the ability or OCR??? i believe that is what is used to scan text.. of course you ussally have to edit it afterward just to make sure it picked it up correctly.. i think most scanners now-a-days come with some sort of OCR software... i know every scanner i have ever bought came with it.. even the really cheapo one i bought years ago...

Yes, my scanner has OCR software... at least I think so. I really don't use my scanner (since I have a digital scanner)... I really only use it in cases like this one. I will look into Word, thanks...

    malleron:

I downloaded the lastest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0. I can not find anyone that has the program to make PDFs. I got EasyPDF but thats not worth anything. (It sucks.)

I only found that plugin for Word 97.

I have the full version of Acrobat 4.0. If you like, you can send me what you have (or I can download it from somewhere you specify if it's too big for email) and I can convert it for you.

Let me know if that works for you.

You should OCR the magazine article, then scan the image separately. That should work just fine.

The image is on the same page as the text. So I can't scan the image seperatly.
