I have only been given the role recently to keep tabs on a web server. Basically i cant configure apache to find my .htaccess files in doc-root or where ever.

    In httpd.conf :

    I have AccessFileName .htaccess

I am using virtual hosts and in <Directory>, I can specify where to look for a .htpasswd file, which is fine and in the end i will probably prefer to keep everything in the httpd.conf. However, at the moment i want to use a .htaccess so I dont need to restart apache all the time.

What am I missing and therefore apache not picking up the .htaccess?

    thanx
