    MySQL 4.1

What in gods name is a widely accepted charset? It's really getting on my nerves. Every single query I do it screams at me for incompatible charsets, and I have absolutely NO idea what it should be (or why it's default to swedish). Feel free to shed your insight. Thanks.

I have it locally (my server's 4.0), and the default is "latin1_swedish_ci". I've set it to utf8_bin and that seems to work, though any further knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

I think I have it set the same was as utf8_bin sounds pretty darn familiar.
