There's a huge update going on right now, the WMW forum is going crazy. The serps are in flux right now, I'm just hoping things are prettier when things settle down. I don't think there was a toolbar PR update though, and that seems to be what some of you are looking for.

Yes there are even ongoing changes! Positions are now different from what they were like 8 hours ago! This is weird.

Tyhe: I did what we discussed in this thread.

Don't stress too much, your drop in traffic could simply be related to the approaching holiday.

For the past 3 days my data has been showing about 3 different versions of serps. Almost everytime I check it's shown different results. I personally am not going to sweat anything until this madness ends and the serps are stable.

Until then I'll be heading down to the casino and hearing some good music and hopefully come home with more money than I left with...

How do your stats for the same day of the week before Christmas for this year compare to last year (e.g. how does 12/16/2004 compare to 12/18/2003) pattern wise.

In my case, while the total number of pageviews from last year to this year are different, the patterns are identical and if anything, this year is holding steady better as last year I had already started to see a drop in traffic.

I had a site take a dump on me for a term I was trying to optimize for. But it's done this before so I can't say anythign has changed. (But almost assuredly something has judging by the reactions so far).

Based on last year's traffic patterns, I fully expect my traffic to drop from its current ~35,000 page views per day to < 2,000 page views per day over the Christmas weekend. I haven't yet begun to feel the hit, but I think new content is buffering my drop. I don't doubt that a SERP shakeup could be affecting your site. I'm just saying by comparing last year to this year, you will be better able to issolate out seasonal traffic fluctuations from SERP disruption.

Given how aggressive Google has been as of late with indexing some sites, you could probably make some tweaks to your site to help improve your situation. I don't know what your site that is having problems looks like, but remember that Google seems to really like a properly structured layout (e.g. proper use of <Hx> tags).

You mean that you don't think toolbar PR has updated, right?
I know (yes, for sure) that Google has PR updated faster on the inside, and what we see is old.

PS soz for the late reply XP

This update was good for me, my coupon site was out of the dumps, lots of new pages indexed on my new datafeed sites. Other sites are stable.

Sure, income has dropped, but that is a time of the year thing. Most of my pure advertising income is pulled from students doing homework, and classes have ended (or will end soon).

Income/traffic for the non student type sites is stable.

Although I have noticed slightly less AWS driven Amazon sales, but that could be from it being late in the shopping season.
