PHP/mySQL Books or mySQL Books

Hello...

Could anyone recommend a very good PHP/mySQL or just mySQL book for a beginner? Yes, I've finally realized online tutorials really don't cut it when you're seriously interested in learning. thanks in advance.

Learn SQL as opposed to MySQL. Here's a good book :

I think it's good, althogh I'm still in the middle of reading it...

1. MySQL (Other New Riders) by Paul DuBois, Michael Widenius

2. Professional Php Programming (Programmer to Programmer) by Sascha Schumann, et al

Hi,

I think "PHP Essentials" is flat out the best book to learn php and mysql for a beginner. If you don't want to get bogged down in theory, and want to learn php and mysql in the shortest amount of time with the greatest practical application get that book. I also think having a second book like "Beginning PHP4" for a reference is very valuable. Wrox programming books tend to go into a lot of detail, so if you want to know about some fine point of a subject, you can look it up in that book.

I bought those exact same books "prof php" "mysql new riders". I recommend them also.

You can't go wrong when purchasing an O'Reilly Book. Or at least I haven't.
