Could anyone recommend a very good PHP/mySQL or just mySQL book for a beginner? Yes, I've finally realized online tutorials really don't cut it when you're seriously interested in learning. thanks in advance.
The thread that is linked to in my signature below (Skunk's list of resources) mentions PHP books. Also use the search facility to search these forums for threads on mysql and php books as this topic does arise often. Have fun!
I think "PHP Essentials" is flat out the best book to learn php and mysql for a beginner. If you don't want to get bogged down in theory, and want to learn php and mysql in the shortest amount of time with the greatest practical application get that book. I also think having a second book like "Beginning PHP4" for a reference is very valuable. Wrox programming books tend to go into a lot of detail, so if you want to know about some fine point of a subject, you can look it up in that book.
