    determine if IE6 is in quirks mode or standards mode

    I would like to determine if IE 6 is using standards mode or quirks mode to display the focus page. Is there an easy way to check this?

    If you have no doctype, your page is in quirks mode.
    If you have a doctype with no system identifier (the "http://www.w3.org/..." part), your page is in quirks mode.
    If you have anything above your doctype like a comment or <?xml?> declaration, you're in quirks mode.
    If you have an old doctype, like HTML 3.2, you're in quirks mode.

    Otherwise it's safe to say that you're in standards mode.

    Type this (verbatim) into the address bar of your browser while the page is displayed:

    Code:
    javascript:alert(document.compatMode);
    If it says "CSS1Compat" you're in "standards" mode.
    It it says "BackCompat" you're in quirks mode.

    The script shortcut works well. FF tells me in tools>page info, but IE makes me work a little. One more reason to love FF.

    Thanks, folks.
