Difference between split and explode?

what should I use explode() or split()
can somebody explain me the diferences between this 2?

From the manual:
split -- Split string into array by regular expression
explode -- Split a string by string

1. When you post a message thread, use a title that explains the problem to some degree like "Difference between split and explode?" - not just the word "why". You waste our time because we have to open it up to find out what it is about rather than see what it is if it doesnt' concern us so we can skip it; also
