    Creating a real-time input field

Im wondering is it possible to create a textarea that is 'what you see if what you get', i wont to go furthur than just bbcodes. Like in a textara if you select some text and hit bold, that text will go bold. (like ms word) I hope you understand what im getting at.

Are there any javascript versions of this htmlarea that will work on a browser besides I.E. I cant use html area, as i and many of my staff members hate I.E and dont use it. I only need these capabilites

underline, bold, italic, text aligning, listing (numbers or dots)

Is there any javascript alternative that will allow me to do what htmlarea does and on lots of browsers.

Also, other free alternatives are advanced htmlArea(DEMO) & FCKEditor(DEMO). Both work in Mozilla FireFox(0.8+) besides IE & FCKEditor works in Netscape7+(that's what I have, I dunno about lower versions). I haven't tested in any other browser.

Is there a need to re-invent the wheel? There are some really good open-source solutions available. If you want to code, then is it not better to contribute to them & make them even more better?
