    IE6 problem with padding links in list menu

    I'm working on a CSS horizontal navigation menu based on Rachel Andrew's CSS Anthology, which I've got to work fine on Mac and PC in Opera 7.X, Netscape 7.0, Firefox 1.0, Safari and IE5.1 (Mac).

    My problem is that - though IE6 PC happily delivers the padding left and right I'm adding to links - I can't get any padding top or bottom to appear ...unlike all the other browsers I've listed.

    Is this a quirk of IE6 or am I missing something (...or dumb ... or both...) ?

    Stripped down version of the problem here: http://www.virco-hosting.com/csslist/test.htm

    Any pointers much appreciated!

    Hi,

    Add position:relative to the anchor and if that doen't work then you may need to resort to the height:1% hack.

    Try position:relative first though as it has no ill effects on other browsers.
    Code:
    #navigation li a {
    padding-top: 14px;
    padding-bottom: 14px;
    padding-left: 10px;
    padding-right: 30px;
    color: #FFFFFF;
    background-color: #B51032;
    text-decoration: none;
    border: 1px solid #711515;
    position:relative;
    }

    That'll be fixed then! Thanks very much Paul.
