Question Question: How to maintain Google Ranking even when moving file.

My website is currently in the first page ranking (#5) for a certain keyword. That page is located two subdirectories below the root directory. I am considering to move that page to a higher level or maybe even to the root directory to get a higher ranking. I read that I could use .htaccess to automatically redirect to the new file location. Will this attempt hurt my current ranking or even face the risk of being dropped from indexing? Thanks for your help

    It's easy in .htaccess file.

    Code:
    Redirect 301 /dir1/dir2/file.html http://www.site.com/newpage.html
