    Inline <LI> with background - positioning help

    I have 5 inline <LI> each with a separate backgound. With 'display: inline' specified, it doesn't display the backgrounds.

    When I disable 'display: inline,' it properly displays the background but <LI> items are listed vertically instead of horizontally.

    URL: http://creativearc.mysite4now.com/00insurance/

    CSS:
    //div#buttons li {
    // display: inline;
    // list-style-type: none;
    //}
    //
    //#auto {
    // height: 170px;
    // width: 140px;
    // background-image: url(../images/li-auto.gif);
    // background-repeat: no-repeat;
    //}

    Attachments illustrate what happens w/o 'display: inline' in the CSS, followed by a photoshop rendering of what I'm striving for. (Compare this to my URL above)

    P.S. the vB [CODE] tags don't seem to work right for me..

    perhaps you need to try:

    li {
    display: block;
    float: left;
    }

    this will float each of the liust next to eachother.

    Hope this helps
