I know nothing about PHP, however, I know Perl pretty well. Someone told me that inorder to do what I want to do, I need to know something called "Parsing."

I would like to know how to "grab" the headlines from this page

    http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/f.../pro/dolphins/

A rival of my site has this feature, so it is possible.

Could someone PLEASE tell me where I can find more info on how to do this? Or, if you would like to script it for me, please email me at andrewt@adelphia.net...

    Thanks for any information

    Andrew...

    1) Have you sent an email to the Sun-Sentinel with that request? They might be willing to help you out if you give them credit.

    2) What is your competitor's site? We can check it out.

Now, they are more than likely using XML for this. That means that the Sun-Sentinel is creating an XML file that is being opened by your competitor, then spitting out the contents onto his page.

Either that or he is just going to the SS site and copying the headlines by hand.

I don't think he is doing this by hand as the news is updated about every few hours. I also don't know much about XML, however, the website is grabbing news from at least 5 different sources.

To see what I mean, go here http://phins.com/phins-urls.html

    Thanks.

    Andrew...

It appears that your guy is grabbing headlines from espn...who in turn say that they are getting their headlines from http://www.sportsticker.com/.

I would recommend going straight to the source. It might be that they are willing to give out their content in return for links to them or credit.

You could also try some of these links:

    http://affiliate.isyndicate.com/

    http://www.freesticky.com/stickyweb/...ionname=sports

    http://www.4freecontent.com/

http://w.moreover.com/ (I have heard the most about this one...i would try it first)

    good luck.

Exactly. Thats why I never used Isyndicate because they hardly ever had the right content. I have a Dolphins site, and they would have news from every other team except for the Dolphins. Let me look into Sportsticker... thanks!

If you go to http://www.devshed.com and go the php section, there is an article on grabbing headlines from sites and putting them on your site automatically, with just some php and perl.
