BurstMedia isn't cutting it for me. I'm looking to advertise on my own and need suggestions of how to get advertisers.

If you want to sell advertising on your own, the first thing you need to do is make some improvements to your advertising info page. Your listed rates are very high in this market. That is not always bad since it gives you room to negotiate but in this case, you need to consider lowering them a bit. I would also remove the discount table you have listed there. The discounts are very small and it may give the advertiser a feeling of unflexibility on the price.
The next step would be to put together a more comprehensive media kit that you can send to your potential advertisers. Most experienced advertisers will want to see a lot more information before they commit to buying ad space.
When you have everything together and in place, start contacting companies that you think would have an interest in advertising on your site. You can find some leads by checking out competing sites and see what kind of advertisers have purchased space there.
Hope that helps.

People can sell to big companies for $4-$6 cpm, so you need to go below that to really sell any. Even then it's hard: most advertisers will go to an agency instead of browsing smaller sites.
