    Do browsers cache CSS background images?

    Do browsers cache CSS background images? Like for example the one in:
    background: url(../images/logo.gif) #fff no-repeat;

    Thanks,
    Julian

    Generally, yes. Naturally this will vary depending on the users cache-settings, but the default action of most browsers is to cache all CSS content for the current session.
    Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

    Hi,

    Once the image has been called for in the page then it will be cached unless settings have been changed as mentioned above. Background images in the stylesheet that don't refer to the current page will not be cached until called for in the html (except for a bug in safari which caches all images inthe stylesheet in error.)

    Paul
