With more than 100,000,000 XP users on SP2, I'd have to say that it's the unlucky ones who are "the few". And, since only 1200 support calls have been placed to Microsoft in regards to SP2 it's really hard to say what's the core of anyone's problem.

I made a support call regarding XP2 but that was only to get it to reactivate after I installed it. Seems it didn't like the new motherboard, CPU and Video Card I had installed the night before and thought I was putting it on a new computer. Definately violated the 10 major components rule on that one.

I've been using SP2 on a number of machines since it was released, and I couldn't be happier!

I just built a new PC for my new office, and purchased WinXp Pro SP2 and installed it - no probs. I've been working with Win2K up to this time, and I was hesitant to move up to XP. But XP was cheaper than Win2K, so I decided to go for it. Glad I did.

All my "development" software that I had been using with Win2K works great (Photoshop CS, Xara X, Homesite 5.5, etc.), but I couldn't get Office 2K Pro to install - it kept hanging up. But it may have been the disks I was using, since the originals got destroyed (long story!) and I was working from the backup copies I had made. I just went ahead and purchased Office XP Pro and installed it - not a single issue so far.

We also have a laptop in the office we use for sales meetings, demos, etc. and it has XP Home installed. I did the SP2 update on it about a two weeks ago, and haven't had a problem. I use it sparingly, but my business partner uses it often. He is not too computer savvy, so if anyone would have a problem with it, he's the one and he hasn't mentioned anything. So in my limited experience , both XP Pro SP2 and XP Home SP2 have shown themselves to be very good and stable.

P.S. I don't play any FPS or RP games. Web coding, site design, simple graphic creation and photo manipulation, etc. are the bulk of what I do on the computers. Then there's also a little time spent doing the basic emailing, surfing, etc. So maybe I'm not taxing the OS enough to really know whether there are problems or not.

thanks for all the responses - it was that one of customer had reported some alignment problem with our application Screenswift 3.0. Couple of friends at SitePoint helped me confirmed that SP2 could not be the reason for this problem. Ultimately she discovered that the problem was because of some driver problem which was causing display of certain applications strange. really strange.

We have one machine running XP SP2 too - no problem on it. Others are win2k - don't really feel a need to upgrade/shift to XP Pro.

I thought I'd finally take the plunge. Been trying for a couple of days now and it refuses to even download. Been looking for a simple download, and all I can find is the 270mb network d/l.

    Oh well.

Unfortunately, if Windows Update doesn't list it you'll have to use the network package, as the single-machine package is available only through WU.

I installed xp after a few weeks of release to let the "bugs" get worked out. I have not had a single problem with it and it's working great.

Looks like I'm destined to be SP2-less.
