Add the Same Navigation to Multiple Pages

I am in the process of redesigning my site. I will be using dreamweaver 2004. Some parts of my site will be requiring a different navigation structure.

What is going to be the easiest way to accommodate this?

Does dreamweaver have a similar feature like shared borders?

The best way to do this would be to learn a server-side language like PHP or ASP and use include files.

I think Dreamweaver does something similar with library items, but they have to be rebuilt every time you change something.

Hi,

Dreamweavers template system is pretty good and allows you to change the consistent aspects of the whole site from one main page. However unlike includes you still have to upload the whole site again.

Makes no difference to validation at all. All the template commands are in comment tags that only dreamweaver takes any notice of.

This site was done with the navigation and header as templated regions etc and validates with no problem.

You are probably right as the drawback with dw templates is that even though you can change the whole site from one page you still have to upload the whole site again which is a pain.

Includes and server side stuff such as databases will be more efficient although a database is tricky to set up if you don't have much experience. PHP includes are relatively simple and only involve one line of code to your page.

My plans are to learn proper site presentation than the move into databases, php, mysql, etc.

Yeah, I was just talking about hosting options, not performance. Though SSI was never much of a killer on sites I work with
