    I'm such a geek

As I was walking through Carnegie Mellon's campus today, clad in my Firefox t-shirt, wearing my white earbuds from my 40 gig iPod I couldn't help but thinking... wow... I'm such a geek. Don't you ever have moments where you just say, "Hey, you know, I'm a total nerd. Holy cow." It's kind of scary, in a nerdy sort of fashion.

I tend to be a bit of a closet geek. My true geekiness comes out when I'm with other geeks. And when that happens, watch out!

Yes yes, Tom, we've all seen those pants

lo0ol, yeah I get those moments. Usually when someone asks me to explain some technical detail to them, and I explain it in a way that the average person wouldn't understand. I just shake my head and say "Sorry, what I mean *laymens terms here*"

Yeah, they kinda sneak up on you... you don't think you're one of them and then a situation like you described comes up and you just laugh or cry, depending on how you feel about it.

    Isn't that an oxymoron?

(I guess you could make it a case that that's a.k.a. an Apple user.)

Actually I was amazed at how many people today said, wow, that's a cool shirt. And you must admit, it's a very attractive logo.

I used to have an "I am a nerd" t-shirt in high school. I'm actually a lot nerdier now though

I wear my geekness with pride. My wife actually calls me a geek when she wants to compliment me.

I'm a closet geek, I know what I'm talking about but the most computer related subject that comes up with my friends is burning CDs of downloaded songs.

Yeah - I'm frequently showing my geeky side away from the computer. It's quite annoying as I try to portray myself as a designer more than programmer, merely for the fact of losing the nerdy appeal of programming. But it never works that way and I always end up saying something really sad and nerdy when I least expect it - all my mates realise I'm a proper nerd though so they just laugh!

But then as a "designer" you're painted with that all-black, coffee-shop-and-glasses brush

Not so much "all-black, coffee-shop-and-glasses", more "poncy-trying-to-look-stylish-and-cool-but-actually-looking-stupid!" I try to hard to adopt the UK trends of fashion but some of them just don't suit me. Never good!

Can you just clarify, were you wearing any trousers, or were you just wearing a t-shirt?

Well, actually I was just wearing a t-shirt on my head, so maybe that doesn't count as wearing anything. Maybe I was getting the stares less because of my geekiness, but more because of my nakedness. That could be it, thanks for clearing things up.

I'm a total closet geek. There are very few people at school who know about my geekiness. I really need to come out of the closet some day.

No one wears the BSOD t-shirts anymore or is that old already. I've never wore any of those t-shirts, except for a Jurassic Park III one. Do I qualify as being an elite geeky?

If you have anything from thinkgeek you're a geek. I wear my anti-RIAA shirt with pride.
