It starts to make one wonder as to what they're trying to do.. are they trying to imply backlinks are more important, are they trying to emphasize people work on backlinks.. they seem to be doing them AWFULLY quickly.
Oh, and yes, I do know backlinks are important, and that they should have more emphasis, I'm just stating this for the sake of discussion.

More important than what? PR is still getting monthly updates, just not on the toolbar. I think the whole idea there, was to put a damper on the manipulation of it. In other words make buying and selling links less profitable.

PR is getting more than monthly updates, isn't it? I was under the impression it was constantly updating. I agree fully with you though, regards to the dampering.

You could be right on that. The only thing I know is that it seems to be getting updated monthly in the Google directory, for DMOZ listed sites.
It will be nice to be able to check your backlinks on Google and be able to see a few more. Google sure has not been showing many backlinks for my sites. Still its the SERPs that really matter
